I've just finished reading this book, dedicated to the author's great great grandfather who spent the last nine years of his life in an asylum in Yorkshire. 'The Ballroom' is a love story set in the same asylum in 1911 when the eugenics movement in the UK was gathering momentum. Like my own work in progress, Hellingly, this story is a work of fiction but inspired by facts.
It's a wonderful read, full of atmosphere and imagery. Click on the book cover to read Hannah Beckerman's review published in February 2016.
